PRINCIPLES OF PROVIDING HUMANITARIAN AID

Abstract

The article defines humanitarian assistance as an important tool for supporting individuals and communities affected by natural disasters, conflicts, or other emergencies. It not only addresses physical needs but also provides emotional support to the affected populations. Humanitarian aid is provided with the aim of saving lives, reducing suffering, restoring normal living conditions, and contributing to the recovery of social and economic stability in the affected areas. The concept of humanitarian aid encompasses a wide range of activities, including providing necessary resources and services to meet the basic needs of people affected by disasters or conflicts. Humanitarian assistance aims not only to address the immediate aftermath of catastrophes but also to offer support in restoring normal life conditions. The principles of humanitarian assistance are based on international norms and ethics, among which the following are crucial: neutrality — humanitarian aid is provided without discrimination based on race, religion, political beliefs, or other characteristics; independence — humanitarian activities must be independent of political, economic, or military interests; impartiality — aid is provided solely based on needs and directed at people who require assistance, without bias; universality — humanitarian aid should cover all those in need, provided without exceptions. The author concludes that in the context of globalization and numerous crises, humanitarian assistance plays a crucial role in supporting the resilience of communities in affected areas and in restoring the normal functioning of society after disasters. The importance of humanitarian aid becomes particularly evident in situations of international conflicts and natural disasters, where swift and effective assistance can save thousands of lives.
